Childhood Remastered: Episode 55 – Treasure Planet

It’s not often that a Disney Feature Film doesn’t make boatloads of money. Treasure Planet is one of those rare cases. In fact they lost over 30 million dollars on this project. But why? Well that is a far more complicated question to answer. With a script based on a literary classic, an all star cast, a large production budget, Big name composers and musicians, and Disney backing it, this movie should have been a money making shoe-in. Judging by its lackluster box office performance, there’s no wonder so many people haven’t heard of this film. One of us never did. That is partially why we picked it to cover this week. Frankly, we just wanted to watch a Disney film that we had never seen. But more importantly we wanted to find out what went wrong (if anything) to cause this film not to succeed. Listen with us this week as we try and figure that out in our coverage of Treasure Planet.
