This week’s request comes via several listeners! Covering Tales from the Cryptkeeper isn’t our first foray into covering animated kids shows based on inappropriately adult oriented content. But in this case, it’s the first time that both the adult content and the animated show it’s based on were well done. In many ways it seems odd that this show didn’t get more episode. Of course we like to try and answer “why”. Why so short a run? Why were there several years between the second and third season? Why did they change the format, and animation so drastically? Take a listen this week as we do our best to fumble through those questions!
Tales from the Cryptkeeper is an animated series aimed at children made by Nelvana Limited. It was shown on YTV in Canada and on ABC in the United States. In Canada, it still airs re-runs near Halloween on Teletoon. It was based on the live-action television show, Tales from the Crypt, which aired concurrently on HBO. Tales from the Cryptkeeper was aimed at children and this series was significantly milder than the live-action HBO version and all blood and gore were completely omitted in order to target the audience.
